The IT programme is a five year programme designed to help the
students learn how to use the computer creatively and independently
as a work tool. Students work in a lab environment using IBM-compatible
computers. All students are required to take at least one half of
the year in an IT course.
The work is primarily with Microsoft Office - in the Word Processing,
Drawing and Painting, Power point and Spreadsheet environments.
As students advance through the programme they are encouraged to
work more independently, putting it to use with their school work
as well as with IT projects.
All students are taught to touch-type.
YEAR 7 : Students are taught the basics of using a
computer and the five types of documents mentioned above. Students
use the text CLAIT - Computer Literacy and Information Technology,
as well as teacher-made materials.
YEAR 8 : Students review, practice and expand their knowledge
of the basic skills acquired in Year 7, using CLAIT and teacher-designed
materials.
YEAR 9 : Students are expected to develop mastery of the
computer and the various environments in which they use it. Students
apply the skills they acquired in the first two years in teacher
designed projects that encourage their creative and independent
use of the computer.
YEAR 10 and 11 : Students are encouraged to use the
computer for their own work. They are also given project outlines
and required to create their own outcomes or documents that demonstrate
their mastery of the computer and it various uses.
